PTS New Laptop Trolley Safety Instructions

IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ
PTS: Laptop Storage and Charging Trolley Basic Safety Instructions
1. The laptop storage and charging trolleys are heavy and cumbersome and care is needed when moving to ensure that obstacles and people are safely manoeuvred around. Preferably two responsible adults should be in charge of moving the trolley.
2. Do not push the laptop trolley down a step or steps.
3. Avoid pushing the trolley down an incline without adequate people to help safely negotiate the slope.
4. When stationary the front facing locking wheels should be engaged to prevent accidental movement of the trolley if someone leans against it. The locks can be safely engaged by depressing the lock with a foot and safely disengaged in a similar manner.
5. Always make sure the locks on the front facing wheels are disengaged before attempting to move the trolley, as the wheels may damage carpet or flooring as they are dragged instead of turning smoothly.
6. When the front door/s are open, always double back the door/s to the side of the trolley to leave maximum clearance for retrieval of laptops and deter people from leaning on them.
7. When taking laptops from the charging slots always make sure that the low voltage charging cable plug is disconnected from the laptop, to avoid cable breakages or dropped laptops.
8. Take care when inserting the laptops into the slots to avoid dropping or damaging the laptop, and always connect the low voltage cable plug firmly to make sure charging always occurs.
9. Adults Only should have access to the rear trolley compartment to plug in laptop chargers and to plug the laptop trolley into mains sockets.
10. IMPORTANT Before disconnecting laptop mains leads from the laptop trolley compartment or the laptop trolley lead/s attached to mains sockets always make sure the mains supply socket/s are switched off. This is because for a short time electricity is stored in the circuitry and may cause an electric shock if the mains pins on the plug are touched.
**A warning notice should be posted adjacent to sockets and elsewhere, as necessary to remind users of the need to switch sockets OFF before inserting or removing plugs.**
11. When accessing the back drawbridge door to connect or disconnect laptop adapters always make sure there is adequate room for the drawbridge to open to its fullest extent and the mains socket/s the trolleys are attached to are switched OFF.
12. With laptop trolley switched OFF at the mains socket/s, make sure the laptop adapters are firmly seated in the mains sockets in the back compartment of the trolley, so that charging can occur.
13. Do not change the layout configuration of the multi-gangs in the back compartment as this may overload the circuit.
14. For safe operation of the laptop charging trolley please ensure the all trailing cables are out of harm's way.
15. In the back compartment utilise the adapter boxes to store the laptop adapters in an orderly way and keep cables as tidy as possible.
16. With laptop trolley switched OFF at the mains socket/s, make sure the trolley main/s cable/s are firmly inserted in the main/s socket/s.
17. If charge indicator/s are fitted the red charge light will indicate power is connected and any fan/s fitted will be operating to keep the trolley and the laptops cool.
18. IMPORTANT Make sure the main/s cable/s are disconnected from the main/s socket/s before attempting to move the trolley to avoid accidental damage to cable/s or socket/s and store trailing cables in the back storage compartment.
19. A daily visual check of the condition of all cables and plugs should be carried out by a nominated competent person.
20. Always keep the back drawbridge locked for increased electrical safety especially when children are present.
21. Do not plug in any single device that is rated at 5amps or above.
22. All PTS laptop storage and charging trolleys are rated up to 250v and 13amps
23. Fuses in plugs are rated at 13amps.
24. It is essential that the trolley is only connected to an electrical supply that has a protective earth conductor.
25. It is recommended that the laptop charging trolley is PAT tested at a maximum interval of 12 months.
26. Designed for laptop adapter charging only.

It is important that all electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition and used with our guidelines. Competent adults should monitor the equipment especially for damage to cables, plugs and associated electrical equipment including laptops. There is advice from the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) in a booklet HSG 107 'Maintaining Portable and Transportable Equipment'.
